This was a bad day since we opened up the curtain from our room and saw that it was pouring outside. “Antigua: 365 beaches, one for each day of the year”, the booklet said. Too bad today was our only day here. We jumped on a cab after being harassed by dozens of tour guides offering their services. We ignored them all and went out of the port area. We decided we would go to the other side of the island and visit some historic sites.

We saw an awesome view of the bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Our driver, Lawrence, pointed out the two houses that Eric Clapton owns in this island. I was able to bargain with Lawrence for a discounted tour, thanks to Britney’s uninterested attitude towards our tour. Later I found out that she wasn’t pretending, she truly wasn’t interested about the whole thing.

At the end she liked the ride back to the port and we thought it was worth the trip. While we were on the road we saw a bunch of goats and sheep with no wool. Lawrence mentioned that the sheep are naturally this way because of the heat, but I didn’t believe him. We also saw a lot of Sicilian donkeys, which are the main mean of transportation in the island.

Lawrence was a good guide, he gave us all kinds of non-requested information: Antigua’s politics, economy, history, architecture, DUI laws, etc.

When we were faced with deciding whether we wanted to extend our tour or not, Britney was overwhelmed. “I don’t like to feel like a commodity to them”, she said. So the decision was made, we would go back to the dock and wait for better weather and then go to one of the 365 beaches. The booklet didn’t say which beaches were better for the rainy days. The sun never showed up the entire day.
